Christie continued its legacy of innovation in 2022
December 26, 2022
What a year 2022 has been! From ballrooms and screening rooms to film festivals and themed attractions, Christie has continued to focus on creating innovative products that help its customers deliver exceptional experiences.
As 2022 wraps up, it’s a chance to look back at some of the industry-leading, award-winning ProAV and Cinema products that Christie launched this year.
RGB pure laser projectors have come a long way
With color approaching the full Rec.2020 color gamut for exceptionally realistic colors, low-maintenance, and long-lasting performance, it’s easy to see why these projectors have become among Christie’s most popular solutions and inspire exceptional experiences.
Compared to other illumination technologies of the same brightness, RGB pure laser illumination offers best-in-class operational efficiency with more light projected onto the screen resulting in lower power consumption and greater cost savings.
Christie’s software solutions include Christie Mystique™, a camera-based alignment software that eliminates hours of painstaking labor to align, warp, and blend multi-projector arrays and complements Christie’s RGB pure laser projectors, making them easier to set up and maintain over time.
Christie Pandoras Box® software for media and show control, including the newly released Pandoras Box Menu app that works with Pandoras Box products to access relevant applications, network or graphic card settings, and Spyder X80, Christie’s powerful image processor, both integrate with RGB pure laser projectors to provide a source-to-display solution to easily handle complex large-scale applications.
The Griffyn 4K50-RGB pure laser projector, introduced in early summer, earned two awards at InfoComm 2022 and dazzled attendees with its whopping 50,000-lumen output and market-leading form factor.
Weighing just 197 pounds (89.3 kg), the Griffyn 4K50-RGB projector is the most compact and lightweight 50,000-lumen projector available. Adding to its versatility is Trulife+™ electronics with ‘all-in’ connectivity, which eliminates the hassle of removable options cards, and Electronic Color Convergence (ECC), for easy individual adjustment of red, green, and blue via remote for perfect color alignment.
The newest addition to the Griffyn Series is the Griffyn 4K35-RGB pure laser projector, which boasts 36,500 lumens in a compact form factor, and weighs only 179 lbs. (81 kg.), making it one of the smallest and lightest high-brightness RGB pure laser projectors available.
For the cinema market, Christie continues to offer the widest range of 2K and 4K projectors in the industry and is the only manufacturer to supply advanced Xenon® illumination. Christie launched six new RGB pure laser projectors this year and three with Xenon illumination. The CP4425-RGB, CP4435-RGB, CP4445-RGB, and CP4455-RGB are reliable, affordable, and are the most operationally efficient projectors that offer a premium moviegoing experience for mainstream and PLF formats on screens between 76 feet and 114 feet wide.
On the 2K front, the new CP2415-RGB and CP2420-RGB pure laser projectors, for boutique and medium-sized theatres, have the highest efficiency and lowest cost of operation for their brightness class in the market, while the CP2415-Xe and CP2420-Xe provide the lowest up-front cost as well as the lowest cost of ownership in their brightness class.
All projectors integrate with Mystique™ Cinema, a fully built-in dual-projection integration kit for DCI-compliant cinema projectors.
Powerful sound for a powerful moviegoing experience
New this year is the addition of Powersoft® professional high-end amplifiers to Christie’s Vive Audio® range of advanced line array cinema loudspeakers. World-renowned and a leader in the audio industry since 1995, Powersoft’s Duecanali and Quattrocanali amplifiers offer exceptional sound quality, Smart Rail Management technology for lower power consumption, and the latest advancements in switched-mode technology. The addition also adds network monitoring capabilities to the system environment.
Combined with Vive Audio, audiences can enjoy an immersive sound experience from any seat in the theatre.
Meet the next generation of 1DLP projectors
Christie’s innovation in projection technology was not limited to its market-leading breakthroughs in 3DLP® projectors. 2022 saw the launch of a range of 1DLP® projectors, including new GS and HS Series models.
Christie expanded its GS Series of 1DLP projectors earlier in the year, adding a 9,000-lumen model and a 10,600-lumen model, as well as a 14,250-lumen model that launched in the autumn. Christie’s GS Series projectors combine performance and reliability for high-use environments, including higher education, places of worship and conferences, and offer 20,000 hours of consistent illumination to 50% brightness.
Three new models in the HS Series were also launched this year, ranging in brightness from 15,570 lumens up to 23,650. The new generation of Christie’s popular HS Series projectors features enhanced color performance while maintaining the reliability, quiet operation, and cost efficiency of the original HS Series.
With the addition of new BoldColor+ technology on our latest models, content shown on the new generation of HS Series projectors is brighter and bolder with deeper blacks and more natural and realistic on-screen images.
The new Christie Intelligent Camera (CIC) is a powerful accessory that works with select 1DLP® projectors to calibrate and optimize color uniformity, and it can be used with Mystique Lite to simplify the set-up of multi-projector systems with automated color and brightness matching across the array.
For extra peace of mind, Christie introduced a 5-year or 20,000-hour warranty on select GS and HS Series projectors.
The evolution of LED continues
Christie’s award-winning MicroTiles® LED line-up expanded with the launch of 0.75mm and 1.0mm pixel pitches, which offer increased reliability, efficiency, and enhanced durability.
The new models feature flip-chip technology, which increases the life of the LEDs by dissipating heat more efficiently, as well as common cathode technology, which reduces power consumption resulting in Christie’s most energy-efficient MicroTiles design to date.
The new 1.0mm model features LED encapsulation, which provides a protective surface that improves optical performance for improved black-level performance, perceived contrast, and protects the display from dust, dirt, and scratches. The increased durability provides the option to design an interactive touch wall.
To meet increased demand for MicroTiles LED, Christie’s Kitchener, Canada-based Center for Engineering Excellence ramped up production with a new state-of-the-art automation line with robotic handling, increasing production capabilities almost threefold.
