September 04, 2024

TORONTO - Christie® is pleased to share that its RGB pure laser and Xenon projection solutions are lighting up screens at the 49th annual Toronto International Film Festival® (TIFF) from September 5 to 15 in theatres throughout the city. This year marks the 24th consecutive year that Christie has sponsored the Festival.

As the Official Digital Projection Partner, Christie cinema projectors are used in five venues– including half of the screens at Scotiabank Theatre, with both RGB pure laser and Xenon-based projection. Roy Thomson Hall, Royal Alexandra Theatre, and the Princess of Wales Theatre feature Christie RGB pure laser projection.

Christie RGB pure laser cinema projectors feature Real|Laser™ illumination, which provides an unsurpassed festival-going experience with incredibly colorful, detailed, and true-to-life images. They are also the most energy-efficient, sustainable projectors in the industry.

"For the past 24 years, Christie's steadfast dedication and support have been crucial in turning TIFF cinemas and our screening venues in Festival Village into remarkable spaces for enjoying the magic of film," said Diane Cappelletto, Director, Technical Production Services, TIFF. "Their commitment to providing state-of-the-art technology and innovation has enhanced the movie-going experience for our audiences. We deeply appreciate Christie's enduring partnership, which has been a key factor in delivering unforgettable moments and cinematic excellence throughout the 11 days of our Festival."

Festival Industry attendees are invited to attend “Amplifying the audience experience - how technology is changing cinema’s future” a Christie-sponsored microsession on September 9 at 10 a.m. at the Glenn Gould Conference Centre.

The session will examine how projection technology impacts the audience experience, a cinema’s bottom line, and the tough decisions cinemas need to make when considering a technology upgrade in an uncertain market. Allan Fernandes, senior product manager, Cinema, Christie, will moderate this discussion

TIFF is screening World Premiers including Eden by Ron Howard, The Deb by Rebel Wilson, and a Gala presentation of the documentary Elton John: Never Too Late
