Christie audiovisual solutions on view at Web Summit

LISBON–Web Summit, the biggest tech conference in the world, held recently in Lisbon (Portugal), showcased a range of Christie® projection, processing, show control and interactivity solutions to power the almost 30 million pixels of audiovisuals on view all around the event's main stages.
This benchmark annual summit (video link), which Forbes called "the best technology conference on the planet," hosted 239 exhibiting companies that came to demonstrate their disruptive capacity, to test new products and to check the current state of innovation. It also attracted 2,150 startups in search of funding, plus a whole host of multinational investors and thought leaders.
Over 70,000 attendees from more than 160 countries, 1,206 speakers and 2,526 accredited journalists filled the 22 different stages divided between Altice Arena and the FIL trade fair centre in Lisbon.
The Portuguese events services company Europalco was commissioned with the design and set up of the audiovisuals for the summit's main stages, and it in turn brought on board Christie as its chief technology partner.
Altice Arena, the primary headquarters of the summit, with a capacity for 20,000 people, was equipped with a gigantic LED mural, as well as three screens measuring 6.1 x 3.3 meters on which attendees were able to follow everything that was happening on the stage from the comfort of their seats. Three Christie 3DLP® technology projectors with 20,000 lumens were used to power the screens.
All the input signals for the arena, which included live broadcasting, presentations, LED walls, projections, monitors, mobile units, multi-viewers, Keynote, players, and more, were managed with a Christie Spyder X80 multi-screen processor, with 80 megapixels processing power in true 4K resolution at 60Hz.
"It was really amazing to see how one single piece of equipment like the Spyder X80 was able to input and output dozens of signals from different sources at such high resolutions with a volume of no less than 20 million pixels," said Nélio Lima, head of Europalco's Audiovisual department, "not to mention the huge complexity involved in combining an incredible amount of different technologies."
Hall 1, one the event's main auditoriums, hosted the Creatiff conference, which was aimed at artists, designers and creatives. Here, two screens measuring 4.4 x 2.5 meters were lit by two Christie 3DLP® projectors with 14,000 lumens run by a Christie Spyder X20 video processor.
This same hall also contained a second stage for the SportsTrade conferences with two screens measuring 3.5 x 2 metres, lit by two Christie 14K 3DLP® projectors managed by a Spyder X20.
"Christie 3DLP projectors never fail to surprise us with their exceptional image quality and uniform brightness, producing the kind of attractive visuals rich in colour that always captivate audiences," said Lima.
In another hall, the booth of the Portuguese electricity company EDP also made a major impact thanks to its audiovisuals. Here, Europalco installed a 2 x 2 meter LED wall screen where people could interact thanks to an integrated Christie Pandoras Box AirScan multi-touch sensor. AirScan is an IR laser system which, combined with Christie Widget Designer software, enables interaction with digital contents.
Lima concluded: "A heavily attended tech event with such a highly informed and demanding audience calls for the most robust, flexible and reliable audiovisual tools available on the market. And, once again, Christie solutions proved themselves up to the job, both in projecting and creating dynamic bright images, as well as management and processing, thus ensuring perfect synchronization at all times and maximum creativity."
