SYDNEY, Australia – Christie® is pleased to announce its recent contribution to the Alumni and Industry Scholarship Fund at The Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), reinforcing its dedication to developing future talent in the film and broadcast industries.

By collaborating with industry organizations, seasoned leaders, and like-minded partners, Christie supports aspiring filmmakers through its Christie Ignite program. This sponsorship provided funding that will be put towards a full scholarship for a postgraduate student to join AFTRS in the 2025 academic year, easing financial barriers to education and professional growth.

“We are grateful to Christie for donating to the AFTRS Alumni and Industry Scholarship Fund,” said Andrew Markwell, head of fundraising and development, AFTRS. “This Fund provides living allowance scholarships to students facing financial hardship, helping to alleviate the financial burden of studying in one of the highest rent locations in the world. It unlocks the door to training that prepares a student for a career in the vibrant screen and broadcast industries.”

Olga Aleksan, senior regional sales manager for Australia and New Zealand, Cinema, Christie, added, “We are thrilled to partner with AFTRS by contributing to its Alumni and Industry Scholarship Fund to support the next generation of Australian storytellers. Christie is proud to play a role in empowering the voices of tomorrow’s filmmakers, ensuring they have the opportunity to develop their craft and shape the future of the industry.”

Additionally, Christie provided AFTRS staff and students with free passes to attend the SXSW Sydney 2024 festival, granting them access to major events such as the Screen Festival, Conference, and the Tech & Innovation Expo, along with industry-curated networking sessions. This provided AFTRS representatives with opportunities to meet and interact with content creators and leaders who are breaking new ground in Australia’s screen industry.

In recognition of Christie’s sponsorship contribution, AFTRS will install a plaque at the entrance of the Main Theatre, signifying that the venue is powered by a Christie cinema projector. Christie’s support will also be acknowledged on the AFTRS website and in its Annual Report.

Awarded annually to nurture gifted storytellers, the AFTRS Alumni and Industry Scholarship prioritizes support for under-represented groups in the Australian screen industries. It recognizes creative excellence and the invaluable perspectives, skills, and connections these individuals bring to storytelling at AFTRS and beyond.
