Christie® RGB laser projectors have helped impress cinemagoers at The Chiswick Cinema, an independent site in London, UK, owned by Trafalgar Entertainment and managed through the opening by Lyn Goleby. Built on the Chiswick High Road at the site of the former Ballet Rambert building in the heart of the community, the cinema has made use of the versatile portfolio of Christie RGB and RGBe cinema projectors across its five screens and features a late bar license and a private dining room adjoining serving gourmet food for the ultimate luxury experience.
Each cinema screen features Christie RGB laser for outstanding image quality and excellent return on investment. With screens ranging in sizes from 4 meters to 8.5 meters (13 to 27.7 feet), each projector was specially selected to meet the requirements from three of Christie’s ranges: CP2306-RGBe, CP4315-RGB and CP2309-RGB and from two technologies: RGBe and RealLaser RGB.
Darren Briggs, head of engineering at Omnex, consultant on the project, explains the choice to opt for the CP2306-RGBe for screens four and five, having originally considered Xenon-based projection systems: “The CP2306-RGBe will give DCI brightness for around 30,000 hours. It is also very low maintenance with a sealed light source. The color gamut is extended, and the contrast is good, so it produces a great image quality for the audience. The RGBe was a new and unknown platform to us and we were really impressed when we saw the images as they were very vibrant. We didn’t expect it to be so bright, in fact it was more than the published specs when running close to minimum power.”
The other three screens use RGB laser projection with Real|Laser, in 4K and 2K resolutions in the form of the CP4315-RGB and CP2309-RGB. Christie sales manager Phil Lord explained the key benefits of RGB laser: “It hinges on how we engineered the Multi Laser Pack Devices (MPDs) to deliver audiences true-to-life detailed images – brightness, image uniformity and high contrast – and it is factory calibrated to hold the color balance for years with almost no maintenance. Crucially, at the same time, it also delivers the best TCO in the industry and 50,000 hours of operational life.”
