11 reasons to choose RGB pure laser projectors

June 20, 2024

Are you looking for an industry-leading projector? Here's why RGB pure laser could be a great fit

RGB pure laser projection delivers the best possible visual experience thanks to features that include high brightness, an expansive color gamut, and operational efficiency…the list goes on!

Let’s look at the top 11 reasons to choose RGB pure laser projection– whether you’re projection mapping a monument or illuminating a fermenting cellar (yes, it happened!) Here’s why RGB pure laser projectors could be a great fit for your next ProAV project.

Christie Griffyn 4K50-RGB pure laser projectors deliver 50,000 lumens of brightness at a manageable weight of 197 lbs. (89.4 kg.)
  1. Color that reaches 98% of the Rec. 2020 color gamut

We’ve talked about the Rec. 2020 color gamut in a previous Christie® Spotlight blog post, and it’s truly the key to delivering real-world colors. RGB pure laser projectors use individual red, green, and blue laser diodes set at specific wavelengths to create pure colors, making it possible to reach 98% of the Rec. 2020 color space.

As the only projection illumination technology that can achieve this expanded color gamut that most closely reflects what our eyes can see, RGB pure laser projectors display bright, immersive visuals.

  2. Content that looks as it did on day one

RGB pure laser projection technology maintains color and brightness over time, regardless of fluctuations in the ambient temperature, so your image looks as good on day 365 as it did on day one.

While the math and software required to achieve this are complex, the color locks to the white point target, and unlike lamp or laser phosphor projection illumination, it doesn't drift over time.

  3. Built-in connections

With RGB pure laser projection, we can build all connections – including 12G-SDI, HDMI, and DisplayPort – into the projector. This means no more removable options cards.

  4. Innovative electronics

Advanced electronics platforms deliver high-resolution, high frame-rate video with unprecedented image fidelity to give you the detail and visual speed you need for the best audience experience.

Our TruLife™ electronics platform features proprietary floating-point architecture supports a video-processing pipeline of up to 1.2 Gpx/s (Gigapixels per second), which enables native 4K at 120 Hz performance. This alleviates the image blur that often accompanies fast-motion immersive projection environments.

And TruLife+ features Electronic Color Convergence (ECC), which makes converging color easy and eliminates small lens artifacts. Whether a projector is hung from the ceiling or truss-mounted, you can digitally adjust the red, green, or blue lasers individually via remote control.

  5. They’re quiet!

Your audience deserves to enjoy the show without distraction from the noise of a projector. With operation as low as 41 dBA – that’s our award-winning M 4K15 RGB pure laser projector in quiet mode – the focus is on the performance, not the projector.

  6. Energy efficiency

We all know that energy efficiency is important in our everyday lives and in business. At Christie, we develop industry-leading, energy-efficient technology, including our RGB pure laser projectors.

Whether it’s our 50,000-lumen Griffyn® 4K50-RGB pure laser projector, which outputs 13.2 lumens per watt and a best-in-class 13,000 BTU/hour, or our M 4K25 RGB projector, which outputs 14.1 lumens per watt and 6,140 BTU/hour — for 31% estimated yearly operational cost-savings over the leading competitor model — Christie is committed to developing sustainable solutions.

  7. Lens swapping

When you choose an RGB pure laser projector, consider the cost of lenses. At Christie, we offer additional sustainability and cost-savings with lenses that you can swap from one projector to another. Legacy M, J, and Crimson Series lenses can be used with our M 4K RGB Series projectors, and Griffyn Series projectors are compatible with all Christie native 4K lenses.

  8. Built-in warping and blending

Managing arrayed projectors is no small feat. The image between the projectors must be perfectly blended so viewers can’t detect overlap, and pixels must be perfectly aligned to the screen or surface.

Ensure your image is properly edge-blended and seamlessly stack multiple images on any 2D or 3D surface with built-in Christie Twist™. Twist precisely controls the geometry of single or multiple projectors through an easy-to-use grid point/mesh interface.

  9. Form factor

RGB pure laser projectors continue to get smaller and lighter, which makes them easier to install, less costly to ship, and more versatile for use in smaller or space-constrained environments. Our M 4K15 RGB projector weighs only 83.8 lbs. (38.1 kg), while our 50,000-lumen Griffyn 4K50-RGB weighs 197 lbs. (89.4 kg) with no external laser racks.

  10. Illumination performance

What’s illumination performance? It’s the amount of time that the laser light source is expected to last. RGB pure laser projectors, with their reliable, solid-state light source and sealed optical light path, offer 25,000 hours of optimal performance when run at maximum brightness and 50,000 hours at 60% brightness.

  11. Technology that’s designed to work together

Together, with our partners, we can help you choose the best RGB pure laser projector for your needs. We design our RGB pure laser projectors to work seamlessly with our range of projection tools and software. From automated camera-based alignment and calibration with Mystique™ and multi-projector control with Conductor to Pandoras Box® media servers and players and more, Christie has the tools to bring your vision to life.
